Sunday 15/4/07 Fry Club B home to Westfield.

A very hot and sticky spring? Sunday afternoon on a very dry but good condition pitch was the setting for The Fry Club B girls home game against Westfield, currently holding fourth in the table.

The game got off to a slow start and neither team seemed very eager to put their mark on the game. Both teams seemed rather slow and cautious of each other.

Westfield settled down first and scored at around five minutes into the first half with a rather scrappy and sloppily defended goal to put the score 1-0 to Westfield. The Fry Club B Girls were then at sea for a few minutes and no mater what instructions came from the Fry Girls playing staff the girls just couldn't settle and were put under needless pressure from Westfield. Then really against the run of play Amy scored a solo top drawer goal out of nothing to put the Fry's girls level at 1-1!

The Fry's girls then settled a little but the football was still somewhat scrappy from both sides. The game was there for the taking it seemed for either team, who could start stringing some passes together. And that's what happened as Danni got Alice away with a lovely pinpoint pass. Alice in turn passed a lovely ball to Amy who put the Fry Club B Girls in front 2 goals to 1. As the first half was drawing to a close Westfield levelled the scores to 2-2, Charlotte took a nasty knock in the process and had to leave the field. Steph came off the bench to take up Alice's position in the midfield and Alice pulled on the goal keepers shirt, this was the last action of the half.

The second half was immediately a better game of football with chances going at either end with both teams wanting to put the game out of each others reach.

Westfield now had the advantage and benefit of substitutes whereas the Fry Club Girls had none on the bench, due to Charlottes injury. Much to Charlottes credit she wished to rejoin the game but it was thought prudent to not let her continue in fear of further compounding any injury she may have had.

The heat and end to end nature of the game made the Fry Club Girls turn in a gritty and much stronger second half and to their credit the scores remained level at 2-2 at the final whistle. That's not to say they just held on, the game was very even but the Fry Club B Girls could well have won it and came close to doing so on several occasions!

The single point was a pleasing result for the playing staff and players, against such a highly placed league team.

Player for the Match was for the first time decided as a shared affair for the whole team, due to a gritty second half showing.

So a very well done to, Emily Dean, Emily Tite, Steph, Amy, Alice, Emma, Danni and Charlotte. 7 points in Four games its getting better and better girls!
